QuikClot Combat Gauze is a soft, non-woven, hydrophilic haemostatic gauze designed to control life-threatening bleeding. The gauze is impregnated with kaolin, an inert mineral that activates the body\u2019s natural coagulation process upon contact with blood, helping a clot form more rapidly at the bleeding site.
Unlike earlier-generation haemostatic agents, kaolin does not cause an exothermic reaction and therefore does not generate heat during use. The product also contains no human- or animal-derived proteins.
The hydrophilic structure of the gauze allows it to be effectively packed into a wound and placed in direct contact with the source of bleeding. QuikClot Combat Gauze is Z-folded, enabling controlled and sequential deployment from the package, which is particularly important when providing care under time pressure and high-stress conditions.
The gauze is supplied in compact vacuum-sealed foil packaging with eight tear points, allowing rapid opening from multiple directions. A radiopaque thread is woven into the gauze, enabling it to be identified on X-ray imaging when required.
