C-A-T Gen 7 is the seventh-generation Combat Application Tourniquet designed to control life-threatening extremity bleeding. Its construction enables rapid, reliable, and effective application even in challenging conditions where every second matters.
The patented “band-within-a-band” design consists of an outer sleeve with a freely moving internal band, allowing circumferential pressure to be applied evenly around the limb and effectively compressing the blood vessels. The single-routing buckle simplifies application, helps eliminate strap slack more quickly, and facilitates use in critical situations.
The reinforced windlass rod features pronounced grip-enhancing ridges, making it easier to grasp and turn securely even with wet or blood-contaminated hands. Once sufficient pressure has been applied to stop the bleeding, the windlass rod is secured in a dedicated windlass clip, which holds it firmly in place and helps maintain the required tension.
The effectiveness of the C-A-T tourniquet has been evaluated by the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research. In testing, the device, when properly applied, was found to be 100% effective in occluding blood flow in both upper and lower extremities.
