Description

A nasopharyngeal airway is inserted through the nasal cavity into the pharynx and helps maintain airway patency. It may be used when a patient requires airway support but the use of an oropharyngeal airway is unsuitable or poorly tolerated due to an intact gag reflex.
Due to its intended purpose, the nasopharyngeal airway is widely used in emergency, pre-hospital, and tactical medicine. It is a practical airway management device suitable for inclusion in individual first aid kits, medical backpacks, and professional medical kits used by rescue and emergency medical services.
