The SAM Junctional Tourniquet is a specialised bleeding control device designed to manage life-threatening haemorrhage in the groin and axillary regions where a conventional extremity tourniquet cannot be applied due to the location of the wound.
The device features a patented AUTOSTOP buckle that helps ensure proper initial belt tension before the targeted compression device is applied. Once a circumferential force of 150 N is reached, two indicator tabs automatically deploy from the buckle, accompanied by an audible click confirming proper application.
After eliminating belt slack, the inflatable Target Compression Device is inflated to apply focused pressure to the required anatomical area and control bleeding.
According to the manufacturer, the SAM Junctional Tourniquet can be applied in less than 25 seconds, making it suitable for situations where immediate intervention is required.
In addition to controlling junctional haemorrhage in the groin or axilla, the device can also be used to stabilise and immobilise pelvic fractures.
